Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Patrick Kluivert has denied trying to hijack Memphis Depay's move from Manchester United to Lyon.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas claimed at Depay's presentation on Friday that PSG had outbid his club at the last minute in an attempt to take the winger to the Parc des Princes.

PSG were interested in Depay in the summer of 2015, but found the winger choosing Manchester United.

Kluivert though insists that he never tried to get Depay to ditch Lyon for PSG, although he does admit speaking to the winger before his exit from Manchester United went through.

"I know Memphis very well", Kluivert was quoted as saying by L'Equipe.

"I spoke with him. I did not try to sign him and I am very happy he plays for Lyon.

"I spoke with him, but it was not directly to sign him."

Depay flopped at Manchester United after making a big-money move to the club from PSV Eindhoven.

Now the Netherlands international winger will try to get his career back on track, something which would benefit Manchester United as they have a number of bonus payments, as well as a sell-on clause, included in their agreement with Lyon.
