Southampton have made an enquiry for out-of-favour Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia following Jose Fonte's departure for West Ham United.

The Saints recently sold Fonte to the Hammers, who have also been linked with Ranocchia, for an initial £8m, with the Portugal centre-back wanting to quit St. Mary's.

Several other Premier League sides have been linked with the defender, whose agents were in London on Friday for talks. Now Southampton are involved in the race.

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, the Saints have asked for information about Ranocchia's availability.

The Italy international has slipped out of favour at the San Siro this season and is eyeing the exit door this month.
