Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, currently on loan at Bournemouth, says he has never ever played with a better captain than Wayne Rooney.

Rooney became Manchester United's record goalscorer on Saturday when he netted his side's equaliser against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium to move on to 250 goals for the club, one clear of Sir Bobby Charlton.

Wilshere feels Rooney's achievement is superb and he also explained that he has never played with a better skipper than the Manchester United star; the pair have regularly turned out together for England.

Posting a photograph of himself and Rooney, Wilshere wrote: "Unbelievable achievement Wayne Rooney.

"Proper captain and by far the best I have played with." Wilshere added the hashtag #RoleModel.

Wilshere's view is likely to generate some controversy given the captains he has played with at Arsenal.

However, the midfielder is a big fan of Rooney and will hope to play alongside the forward for more years to come at international level with England.

Wilshere is currently in the middle of a season-long loan at Bournemouth and is expected to head back to Arsenal in the summer to fight for his place.
