Rangers Under-20s boss Graeme Murty was delighted after his side managed to impose their style during their 5-1 win over Falkirk in an SFA Youth Cup quarter-final on Sunday.

The Bairns took the lead through Kevin O’Hara early on at Ibrox, but a brace from Jamie Barjonas saw the hosts go into the half time break 2-1 up.

Zak Rudden, Billy Gilmour and Jack Thomson scored after the break as Rangers booked their place in the semi-finals of the SFA Youth Cup.

And Murty, who lauded his charges for their response after falling behind early, was pleased with Rangers’ swift and decisive playing style against Falkirk.

“It’s not easy when people are going to press and put you under pressure, but I thought the way they handled the football overall was very, very good and very encouraging for the style we want to play”, he told the club’s official site.

“Against their own age group, it is really, really important we impose our own style, and I thought we did that from the get-go.

“We shifted the ball quickly, played through lines and split their units open at times, but we weren’t getting the breaks and we then got a knock-back with the penalty.

“The way they responded though and maintained their composure, I have to say, they did it a lot better than me at times so credit to them for that and they got the rewards they deserved.”

Murty, whose side headed into the game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Celtic last week, admitted that it is hard for him to choose Rangers’ best goal in the quarter-final clash.

“Some of their play was very, very encouraging and I thought their goals were exceptional, and it was hard to pick a favourite”, he continued.

Rangers are presently 10th in the development league with 21 points from 17 games, 12 behind leaders Hibernian.
