Philippe Coutinho has revealed that the opportunity to continue to work under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was a key factor in his decision to sign a new deal at the club.

The Merseyside giants announced on Wednesday morning that Coutinho has signed a new deal long-term deal with the club, with the terms of the fresh contract due to come into effect from 1st July 2017.

Despite his recurring injury problems, Coutinho has managed to establish himself as a first team regular at Anfield since joining Liverpool from Inter Milan in January 2013, and it has been claimed that Barcelona have been keeping tabs on the Brazilian for some time.

And the attacking midfielder, who has scored six goals and provided seven assists in 18 appearances in all competitions in the present campaign, insisted that he along with his Liverpool team-mates feel honoured to play under Klopp.

“Jurgen is a great manager”, Coutinho told the club’s official site.

“We all can see how much he has changed here since he arrived – and how much he will change in future. He is a winner.

“It’s not only me, but every other player feels honoured to play at this great club for this great manager.

“This feeling has a very positive influence on us as players.”

Klopp, who took charge of Liverpool in October 2015, has already managed to make his mark at the club.

The German manager guided Liverpool to the League Cup and the Europa League finals last season, with the Reds losing both.

After a bright start to the season, Liverpool have faded in recent weeks and presently find themselves fourth in the Premier League table with 45 points from 22 games, 10 behind leaders Chelsea.
