Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has outlined the importance of the club appointing a director of football for their long term benefit.

After Warburton’s departure from the club last week, Rangers are said to be rethinking the football side of things at the club and appointing a new manager is not the only agenda on their table.

The Glasgow giants are looking to rope in a director of football at Ibrox and Robertson stressed the importance of having such a figure at the club for the long term benefits.

He insisted that Rangers want to be seen as a modern football club and for that they cannot afford to dismantle and rebuild vital structures of the club whenever a manager leaves.

Robertson believes a director of football will provide a certain stability and continuity at Ibrox and is important for the overall health of the football club.

The managing director said on the official Rangers Podcast: “We want to be seen as a modern football club.

“We see sometimes when a manager leaves, a lot of the structure leaves with him and that’s an issue.

"There is a lot of time, there is a lot of investment developing that side of the business and you can’t have that changing every time a manager changes.

“The director of football gives you that continuity, overseeing the overall football department, all aspects of it – the academy, the preparation, the analysis and everything regarding the first team.

“So when a manager or a coach does leave, you just have to replace that one person and the club’s philosophy continues unbroken if you have that director of football role.”
