Former Rangers striker Jonatan Johansson admits that the uncertainty surrounding Ibrox is not ideal, but feels the players have to take more responsibility for their performances.

Mark Warburton’s acrimonious departure from the club earlier this month put Rangers into a state of turmoil and a defeat to Dundee last weekend meant that they are now six points off second placed Aberdeen in the league table.

Ex-Rangers man Johansson has conceded that the uncertainty surrounding the club after Warburton’s departure is not conducive for football and admits to the difficulties the players and the Graeme Murty, the interim manager, are facing.

But he insisted that the players ought to take more responsibility for their performances and look to take the club forward on the pitch as it is difficult for an interim manager to change things around in a short period of time.

The former Finland international said on the official Rangers podcast: “The uncertainty is always difficult.

“There will be a lot of mixed feelings within the club with the manager leaving and a lot of uncertainty so it’s difficult for the players.

“But they also have to take responsibility on the pitch because the most important thing is the next game and also for the interim manager who came in next, it will be hard for him to change things around in a short period.

“The team have played a certain way the whole year and to come in and try something different was always going to be hard.”

Rangers will look to bounce back with a win over Inverness on Friday night at the Caledonian Stadium.
