Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has stated that he could consider a move back to the Ligue 1 with Marseille in future, but not anytime soon.

The Frenchman, who joined Arsenal from Montpellier in 2012, signed a new deal with the Gunners in January which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2019.




Montpellier’s Ligue 1 rivals Marseille are assembling a strong team to challenge for the league title next season, with Les Phoceens bringing in the likes of Dimitri Payet and Patrice Evra during the winter transfer window.

And Giroud, who admitted that he could move to Marseille later in his career, however, was quick to add that the transfer will not happen in the near future.
 


Asked whether he would consider a move to Ligue 1 or Marseille by French radio station RMC, he said: "Why not?

“But I see my future, for the short or medium term, in England.

“That’s why I extended my contract with Arsenal.”

Giroud has made 24 appearances in all competitions in the present campaign, scoring 11 times, while he has turned out 211 times in total for the north London club, finding the back of the net 93 times.

The forward, who has helped Arsenal to win two FA Cups, also has 59 caps and 21 goals for France to his name.
