Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson believes Spurs are a “top team”, owing to their “incredible” squad depth.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team, who rested several key players for their FA Cup quarter-final clash against Millwall last weekend, thrashed the League One outfit 6-0, despite losing their top goalscorer Harry Kane to injury as early as the 10th minute at White Hart Lane, with the scoreline being 0-0 at that time.

Kane’s replacement, Christian Eriksen, broke the deadlock in the first half, with fellow substitute Vincent Janssen also managing to find the back of the net late on in the game; Heung-Min Son grabbed a hat-trick against the Lions, while Dele Alli also managed to get his name on the scoresheet.

And Dawson, who was at Tottenham between 2005 and 2014 before moving to Hull City, thinks Spurs’ impressive squad depth makes them a great side.

The 33-year-old is also impressed with Tottenham’s sleek passing style and the manner in which Pochettino sets the team up with two wing-backs.

“I thought Spurs dominated from minute one and seeing it first-hand, the way the team passes the ball, the way they play, I love the way they are set-up with the two wing-backs”, the Hull City defender was quoted as saying by Tottenham’s official site.

“This time it was [Ben] Davies and [Kieran] Trippier, it has been [Kyle] Walker and [Danny] Rose.

“The big disappointment was obviously losing Harry Kane but to have Christian Eriksen to come off the bench and score the opener, a great finish, shows the depth of the squad is incredible – and that’s why Spurs are a top team.”

Tottenham will next face Southampton in a Premier League fixture on Sunday.
