AS Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev has insisted that his club are not under any financial pressure to sell young forward Kylian Mbappe in the summer, which was not the case when they sold Anthony Martial to Manchester United in 2015.

The 18-year-old forward has taken European football by storm this season with his performances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League and has attracted the prying eyes of clubs across Europe.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with leading the chase for the young striker and there is even talk of Barcelona and Manchester United being interested in the teenage forward.

However, Vasilyev has stressed that the club will do everything in their power to keep the young striker at the Stade Louis II beyond the end of the summer and feels that there is no reason for Mbappe to leave Monaco at the moment.

Speaking to French sports daily L’Equipe, the Monaco vice president said: “Kylian is a child of the club and embodies the quality of our training.

“He has very smart parents and they know very well about a career of a footballer.

“We will do everything to keep him and it is very much possible that he will be here next season.

"I don’t see why he would want to leave.”

Monaco sold Martial to Manchester United towards the end of the summer window in 2015 when the Red Devils decided to fork out big money for the young forward.

However, the Monaco vice-president insisted that the situation was different as they needed the money to balance the books and he stressed that at the moment the club are not under any financial pressure to sell Mbappe.

Asked about the Martial deal, the Russian said: “The financial situation was not the same.

“We had a large deficit in 2015, there were issues of Financial Fair Play and we had to sell.

“With this qualification, our budget has been balanced, we don’t need the money and we will be able to consider offers on a case by case basis.

“We have a project running around Kylian.”
