Arsene Wenger has insisted that he doesn’t understand the anxiety surrounding Alexis Sanchez’s long term future at Arsenal at the moment.

The 28-year-old forward's current deal expires at the end of next season and the Chilean has refused to sign a new contract, with more talks scheduled at the end of the current campaign.

Sanchez is said to be frustrated at Arsenal’s under achievement in England and in Europe and is keen to leave the club in the summer, with reports last night suggesting that Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have already opened talks with the player’s representatives.

The forward has been a talismanic figure at Arsenal since joining in 2014 and the supporters are worried about his future at the Emirates but Wenger says that he doesn’t understand the tension.

He pointed out that Sanchez still has around 14 months left on his current deal and the Chilean has remained a professional despite the rumours surrounding his future at the club.

Wenger said in a press conference earlier today: “He has one-and-a half years [left on his] contract.

“I don’t understand that debate.

"When we sign a contract we commit until the last day of that contract and our job is to perform as long as we are there.

“I do not understand this kind of anxiety.

"It is absolutely denying what a professional guy is about.”

Sanchez has netted 22 goals in all competitions this season and has provided 18 assists to his Arsenal team-mates.
