Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has emerged as a target for Marseille ahead of the summer transfer window as they look to add a big name centre forward to their squad for next season.

Marseille have shown ambition in the transfer market recently and signed Dimitri Payet and Patrice Evra in the January window to signal their intent to get back into the upper echelons of French football.

And they have similar plans for the summer with a striker believed to be on the top of their shopping list as they look to add more quality to their squad ahead of next season.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, former Ligue 1 top scorer Giroud is one of the players Marseille are keen to pursue in the summer transfer window as part of their plans.

The Frenchman has lost his regular starting spot this season at Arsenal but has chipped in with crucial goals for the Gunners from time to time to earn points, making him one of the more effective impact substitutes.

However, Giroud remains keen to become a starter again and Marseille feel that they can tap into that ambition and take the former Montpellier striker back to France in the summer.

The Frenchman recently said that he has no plans to make an immediate return to France but Marseille are keen to test the striker’s resolve during the summer transfer window.

He has a contract until 2019 with Arsenal.
