Dejan Lovren has said that he is excited about Liverpool’s future after signing a new long-term deal with the Reds on Friday.

The Croatian defender, whose present contract with Liverpool was set to expire in 2019, joined the Merseyside giants from Southampton in the summer of 2014.

He has since made 105 appearances in all competitions for the club, with 29 of those coming in the present campaign.

Lovren is yet to win a trophy for Liverpool despite coming desperately close on two occasions last season when the Reds lost the EFL Cup final and the Europa League final to Manchester City and Sevilla respectively.

Liverpool, who will end the present campaign without silverware, however, are still in the running for a top four finish, which would enable them to qualify for the Champions League next season.

And Lovren, who branded Liverpool “fantastic” after committing his long-term future at Anfield, explained that he is thrilled to be part of the club’s future.

“I am glad I will be a part of this team and this plan for the future”, the defender told the club’s official site.

“We are a really talented team with many special players, an amazing manager, the club is fantastic [and] the supporters are always behind us even on the bad days, which is the most important thing.

“I am definitely excited about the future.”

Besides helping out Liverpool’s defence, Lovren has also managed to score four goals in all competitions for the club.
