Jason Holt has insisted that Rangers will not be affected if they have to start their pre-season early, provided they qualify for the Europa League next season.

The Gers, who returned to the top flight this season, presently find themselves in third spot in the Premiership, boasting 58 points from 33 games.

Rangers will be eligible to play in the Europa League qualifiers, which are due to start in the end of June, if they manage to finish in the top three of the Premiership in the present campaign.

However, finishing in the top three will mean that Pedro Caixinha’s team will need to start their pre-season shortly after the end of the ongoing campaign in order to prepare for the Europa League qualifiers.

But Holt feels starting pre-season early will not pose any problems for Rangers as most of his team-mates are yet to taste European football and are keen to feature in the Europa League.

“I don’t think so”, he told Rangers TV, when asked if starting pre-season early could affect the squad in any way.

“When you’ve got the chance to play European football, not many in our squad have done that.

“So if you get a chance to do that then you’re willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that.

“If you want to get the spot for European football, there are still hard games left.

“So you need to prepare properly and we’ll do that.”

With five league games remaining in the season, Rangers are currently nine points ahead of fourth-placed St. Johnstone.
