Tom Boyd thinks it would be wonderful if Celtic manage to rope in Patrick Roberts on a permanent deal from Manchester City this summer.

The winger, who joined the Hoops on a one-and-a-half-year loan deal from the Citizens in the winter window in 2016, has managed to make his mark at Paradise.

Roberts has scored nine times and set up 17 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants in the present campaign.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers recently admitted that he would love to sign Roberts permanently if Manchester City are willing to let the youngster go.

And Boyd, who heaped praise on Roberts, believes it would be great if the Bhoys snap him up permanently from the Premier League heavyweights.

“He’s a quality football player”, Boyd told Celtic TV, when asked about Roberts.

“He’s getting more starts now, his confidence levels are a lot higher.

“He’s getting the goals as well which is great to see.

“He actually played as a striker in a few games.

“We’ve to see if the manager can get him on a permanent basis and that would be wonderful.”

Roberts, who scored a brace during Celtic’s 4-1 win over St. Johnstone at the weekend, is due to return to Manchester City at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old recently opted out of England Under-20s World Cup squad in favour of playing in the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen later in the month.
