Arsene Wenger admits that a decision needs to be taken over Lucas Perez’s long term future at Arsenal in the summer, even though he wants to keep the Spaniard at the Emirates.

The Gunners snapped up the 28-year-old forward from Deportivo La Coruna last summer but the Spaniard has struggled to carve out a niche for himself in Wenger’s squad.

Injuries and form meant Perez has only made eleven Premier League appearances thus far and only two of them came in the starting eleven for the Gunners.

Wenger revealed that the Spaniard has recovered from a thigh problem, but admits that despite the quality of the forward, he has just not played enough games this season.

The Frenchman wants to keep Perez at Arsenal but has conceded that a decision needs to be taken either way this summer.

The Arsenal boss said in a press conference: “Lucas Perez is fit.

"He is a top quality striker, I couldn’t give him the games he wants and deserves.

"I feel sorry for him on that front.

“We had more strikers available, and it in the end it was a congestion there.

"It doesn’t take anything away from his quality.

“If I am the manager I would love to keep him, but we have to sit down together to see if he has a reasonable chance of playing next season.”

Perez has netted eight goals and provided six assists this season despite his limited opportunities at Arsenal.
