Manchester City have initiated contacts for the signature of Manchester United linked Benfica defender Nelson Semedo, ahead of the summer window.

Pep Guardiola is expected to spend big again at the end of the season to retool his squad ahead of the next campaign, when Manchester City will be expected to challenge for the Premier League title.




And signing a right-back is believed to be a priority with Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta entering the twilight of their respective careers and it seems the club have zeroed in on a target.

Manchester City are showing an interest in Benfica’s Semedo and according to Portuguese daily O Jogo, the club have established initial contact to gain more information on a probable transfer.
 


The Premier League giants are keen to know more about the modalities of a deal before they take a decisive step, but Guardiola is interested in taking the 23-year-old defender to the north west of England.

However, Manchester City could expect to face stiff competition for his signature as clubs such as Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Inter Milan are keeping track of Semedo ahead of the window.

Semedo, who has a contract until 2021 with Benfica, has also earned two international caps for Portugal.
