Peter Cech has admitted that Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Southampton on Wednesday night has given his side hope of a top four finish this season.

The Gunners, who headed into the game at St. Mary’s Stadium on the back of a 2-0 victory against Manchester United, moved up to fifth place in the Premier League with 66 points from 35 games.

Arsenal are just a place and three points behind Manchester City, and four points adrift of third-placed Liverpool, who have played a game more.

In order to finish in the top four, Arsene Wenger’s team not only have to win their remaining three games, but also have to hope that the teams above them drop points.

And Cech, who insisted that the win over Southampton has boosted Arsenal’s hopes of finishing in the top four, explained that his side need to ensure that they are able to take advantage in case of Liverpool and Manchester City dropping points.

“I think it will give us a hope, because if we keep the pressure on the other teams, maybe they will have an unlucky game or drop points somewhere”, the goalkeeper was quoted as saying by Arsenal’s official site.

“We need to make sure we are ready to take advantage of that.

“We concentrate on our games, we go game-by-game and we have to win all of them to give ourselves a chance.

“Then we will see what happens.”

Arsenal will next face Stoke City in an away fixture on Saturday.
