Norwich City legend Iwan Roberts believes that Leeds United head coach Garry Monk must surely be one of the main contenders for the vacant manager's job at Carrow Road.

The Canaries are on the lookout for a new manager and Monk, whose contract with Leeds runs out this summer, has been mooted as a potential target for the club.

Roberts was impressed with the job Monk did at Swansea City and feels the former defender has also worked miracles at Leeds given his small budget.

As such the ex-Norwich striker believes Monk must be under serious consideration at Carrow Road.

"I’ve heard Garry Monk’s name mentioned more than once with the vacancy and looking back at what he achieved at Swansea in his first full season taking them to their highest finish with record points tally in the Premier League", Roberts wrote in his Evening News column.

"Garry came in taking over from Michael Laudrup on February 4, 2014 and steered the team away from the relegation places when dropping back into the Championship was a real possibility for the Swans.

"If you add to this the job he’s done at Leeds this season with not much money to spend then he surely has to be a main candidate for the head coach position at Carrow Road", he added.

Leeds co-owner Andrea Radrizzani is believed to be trying to convince Monk to sign a new contract, with a mooted three-year deal on the table.

However, Monk is thought to want assurances over the budget which will be available for next season, with promotion to the Premier League his target if he stays at Elland Road.
