France national team coach Didier Deschamps believes football must be the top priority in Kylian Mbappe’s decision over his future because of next year’s World Cup.

The 18-year-old striker has taken European football by storm this season with his goals, which powered Monaco to their first Ligue 1 title in 17 years and also made an appearance in the Champions League semi-finals.

With his performances on the big stage, the prying eyes of the big names of European football have also descended on the Stade Louis II and there is a certain uncertainty about his future at the club.

Monaco have already rejected a mega money offer from Manchester United for the young Frenchman and also trying to fight off interest from Real Madrid in order to keep him at the club.

Deschamps has reserved praise for Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim for the way he handled the rising star of French football this season and feels Mbappe is too exposed in the media.

The France head coach also believes that any decision on the young striker’s future should be made taking into consideration next year’s World Cup, indicating that Mbappe needs to continue to play regular football to get on to the plane for Russia.

Deschamps was quoted as saying by Le 10 Sport when asked about Mbappe: “Jardim managed him very well at the club.

“He has been too exposed; we are talking too much about him. I will have discussions with him but I am not the one who is managing his career.

“Next season we switch to World Cup mode and obviously football must be the priority in his choice.

“Leaving [Monaco] would be riskier for Mbappe than staying.”

The 18-year-old has scored 26 goals and provided 14 assists for Monaco this season in all competitions.
