Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Liverpool are on a strong financial footing to sign players, even without the lure of Champions League football in the summer.

A win at Anfield on Sunday against Middlesbrough will guarantee Liverpool a top four finish and a return to Champions League football next season after a gap of two years.

Klopp has often talked about the importance of Champions League football to attract better quality players to Anfield in the transfer market and the club are desperate to do so in the summer.

While he admits that there is more money in the Champions League, the Liverpool manager insisted that the club are already financially strong enough to sign good players even without the lure of European football.

The German was also quick to add that it is important that Liverpool spend wisely even if they have the capacity to fork out big fees.

"It’s money we didn’t have last year or the year before.

"It’s one part of it but we are already in a good position. We are a club in a good financial position.

“We are working not just on the pitch. My day is not just 24 hours.

“In the Champions League you get a lot of money which is very interesting.

"It always makes sense to think before we spend.”
