Former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder Nigel Spackman thinks the Blues are worthy winners of the Premier League title this season.

Chelsea, who endured a difficult 2015/16 campaign, appointed former Juventus and Italy boss Antonio Conte as their new manager last summer.

The Italian tactician managed to make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge by guiding Chelsea to the Premier League title by beating West Bromwich Albion 1-0 earlier in the month.

Chelsea could finish the season with a league and a cup double as they have also reached the FA Cup final, where they will face Arsenal on 27th May.

And Spackman, who feels Chelsea deservingly won the Premier League this term, however was quick to add that the Blues were helped in their quest by not having had to play in Europe.

“I think they were worthy winners”, he told LFC TV, when asked if Chelsea deserved to win the league.

“No European football suited them because they have got a Champions League squad.

“They are now challenging for the double and I think they are worthy winners.

“They have been the best team overall, but they haven’t played the same amount of games the other teams have.

“And they have a massive squad. Can they go on and do the double? We’ll wait and see.

“But Conte has done a great job.”

Chelsea, who edged out Watford 4-3 on Monday, will end their league campaign with a home game against Sunderland on Sunday.
