James Tavernier feels Rangers should take inspiration from Leicester City when they step out in European competition next season.

Despite a disappointing campaign for the Gers which saw the side fail to mount a meaningful challenge to rivals Celtic and certain to finish third in the Scottish Premiership, they will be tasting European football next term.

Rangers are set to play in the Europa League qualifiers, but with a squad of players largely inexperienced at international level, expectations in some quarters are being dampened.

Nevertheless, Tavernier feels the example of Leicester, who reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League in their debut in the competition, shows what can be achieved.

"We want to do the best we can, you see Leicester and what they have done in the Champions League this year and anything can happen in cup competitions", the right-back said in a press conference.

"It’s going to be a new one for a lot of the lads and we’re just hoping we can have a really good go at it", he added.

Gers boss Pedro Caixinha will be keen for his men to make as much progress as possible in the Europa League as it would likely bolster his available funds when it comes to strengthening his squad.

The Portuguese is though expected to make several additions before Rangers play their opening Europa League game.
