Former Spurs boss David Pleat has given credit to Mauricio Pochettino's side for managing 86 points playing the Tottenham Hotspur way.

The Lilywhites finished with the best goal difference in the Premier League, eight better than champions Chelsea and Pleat believes that it goes to show the quality of the team Pochettino has put together.

In terms of the overall goals scored as well, the Lilywhites are second only to Chelsea and given the fact that the Blues are generally defensive, Pleat believes that it is something of an achievement.

"For Spurs to finish with 86 points, more goals than any other team in the league, conceding less goals than any other team in the league and playing the Tottenham way – it's just fantastic," the 72-year-old said on BBC Radio 5 live.

There was also praise in Pleat's words for striker Harry Kane, who he believes has been a good ambassador for the game and hasn't shown any tendency to be selfish in spite of being in the race to win the Golden Boot.

"Harry Kane is a good ambassador for the game", Pleat added.

"I was worried he would become selfish looking for this Golden Boot but he hasn't."

Tottenham have finished seven points adrift of leaders Chelsea, but will still join the Blues in the Champions League group stage next season.
