Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany feels that his team showed how much quality they possess by thrashing Watford 5-0 in their final match of the season.

The Sky Blues came away 5-0 winners from Vicarage Road today to end their season on a high and will automatically qualify for next season's Champions League by virtue of finishing third in the league.

Kompany, for whom it was only a tenth league appearance of the season, opened the scoring in the fifth minute and insists that his team finishing this season on a positive note sets the tone for the next one.

"We showed in moments how much quality there is in this team and what the standard should be", Kompany was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I believe that you finish the season the way you want to start the next one."

On a personal note, the defender said that it is nice for him to score and manage a clean sheet at the same time, particularly in the final match of a disappointing campaign which was marred by multiple injuries.

"I'm really happy to score and get a clean sheet.

"My season was dead and buried early on but every minute is worth fighting for.

"I'm really happy to be back and I look forward to next season."

The other scorers at Vicarage Road were Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus.
