Jordan Henderson has explained that while a top four finish is a good achievement for Liverpool, he thinks the Reds have plenty of scope for improvement, such as winning silverware.

Jurgen Klopp’s team, who needed to win against Middlesbrough on Sunday to be certain of finishing in the top four, brushed aside Boro 3-0 at Anfield.

While Manchester City and Arsenal were winning their respective games, Liverpool struggled to break down Middlesbrough before Georginio Wijnaldum fired home from close range on the stroke of half-time.

Goals from Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana after the break ensured Liverpool of a top four finish; the Merseyside giants ended their campaign in fourth spot with 76 points from 38 games.

And Henderson, who believes a top four finish is a step in the right direction for Liverpool, however was quick to admit that his side must improve further and look to win trophies.

“I think getting top four is a good achievement and the right step in our development.

“It’s a step forward and I think we’re going in the right direction.

“But at the same time, we’ve got a lot to improve on.

“We want to win more, we want to keep winning, we want silverware and we want to be the best team.

“Yes, it’s a good step, but we’re not finished yet.”

Liverpool, who lost both the EFL Cup and Europa League finals in the 2015/16 campaign, last won a trophy when they lifted the League Cup in 2012; it is their only trophy under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group.
