Celtic legend Tom Boyd is of the opinion that Kris Commons will be fondly remembered by the Hoops faithful.

The 33-year-old, who has not played a single game for Celtic since Brendan Rodgers took charge of the club last summer, was applauded onto Parkhead pitch after the Bhoys ended their league campaign unbeaten, following their 2-0 win over Hearts on Sunday.

Commons will leave Celtic this summer, when his contract with the Scottish giants is due to expire.

The attacking midfielder, who joined Celtic from Derby in January 2011, amassed 287 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants, scoring 89 times and setting up 72 goals.

He helped Celtic to win league titles, two Scottish Cups and a Scottish League Cup.

And Boyd, who feels Commons has given a lot to the club, thinks the Celtic fans will fondly remember the ex-Scotland international.

“He was part of the squad, but obviously he was not used too many times”, Boyd said on Celtic TV.

“He had a few injury problems which set him back this year.

“We can only thank Kris for what he has given to our football club and at times when it has not been as good as this.

“He has come through a lot and he has certainly managed to pick up a few trophies himself.

“He is part of the history and a great part of the history.

“I think he will be fondly remembered by the Celtic supporters.”

Commons, who joined Hibernian on an emergency loan deal in December, made five league appearances for Neil Lennon's men, scoring twice and providing as many assists.
