Young Rangers defender David Bates has revealed that the difference between Pedro Caixinha and his predecessor Mark Warburton stood out like a sore thumb in training, with the starlet enjoying the tactical nature of the Portuguese's work.

Bates was snapped up by Rangers on a development loan deal from Raith Rovers last summer before the Gers decided to make the move permanent in January.

Despite being on the bench on several occasions under Caixinha’s predecessor Warburton, Bates did not make his first team debut for Rangers whilst the Englishman was in charge of the club.

The 20-year-old was handed his senior Rangers debut by Caixinha, who was named the new manager of Rangers in March, in a goalless draw against Kilmarnock in April.

The starlet has since made eight appearances in all competitions for Rangers, including playing against Celtic in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup last month.

And Bates explained that due to Caixinha being very tactical, he is enjoying playing under him, with the Portuguese's reign being a marked difference to now Nottingham Forest boss Warburton.

“As soon as he came in, we saw the difference in training”, Bates told Rangers TV, when asked if he is enjoying playing under Caixinha.

“Under the new gaffer it was a lot more tactical.

“So, as a back four it helped us a lot.

“We knew what we were doing defensively and stuff.

“It was a lot better.”

Bates, who is a product of Raith Rovers’ youth system, is contracted with Rangers until 2018.
