David Prutton has compared Nottingham Forest's recent troubles to those experienced at Leeds United and believes new Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is making the right noises when it comes to getting the City Ground club back up on their feet.

Greek millionaire Marinakis, who also owns Olympiacos, has taken control of Nottingham Forest, ending the reign of Fawaz Al-Hasawi.

The club have chief financial officer Samantha Gordon appointed, while Marinakis has handed a new contract to sporting director Frank McParland and offered backing for former Rangers boss Mark Warburton.

Forest have not had the easiest of times in recent years, with the club often taken to the High Court over the late payment of bills, while they also suffered from transfer embargoes.

Prutton, who counts Forest and Leeds amongst his former clubs, says he can see shades of when the Whites also struggled off the pitch.

"It's a bit like the sticky patch Leeds went through, a great club run in a way that isn't befitting of them", the former midfielder told the Nottingham Post.

"Just because you have money, doesn't mean you have class and it wasn't run in a classy way – a way befitting of its heritage and tradition."

He believes things are looking much better under Marinakis, with the Greek supremo likely to be clear with what he wants from those he has brought in at the City Ground.

"When you hear the new owner coming in and using those words, that language [it’s good to hear].

"When he talks about the people he's put in place to fulfil the remit, and I'm sure there is a remit, he's not going to come in and say 'we're going to be in the Premier League in two years' because he'll look daft.

"Inwardly, there'll be absolutely no shades of grey with what he wants from the people he's employed", Prutton added.

While Leeds enjoyed a controversial spell under Massimo Cellino, the Whites have now come out of the other side, finishing seventh in the Championship last term – and Cellino has now been bought out and has left the club.

Nottingham Forest meanwhile finished just one spot above the relegation zone, surviving on goal difference.
