Aston Villa loanee Jordan Veretout believes his loan spell at Saint-Etienne this season has made him a better player.

Following Aston Villa’s relegation from the Premier League last season, Veretout opted to move back to France with Saint-Etienne on a season-long loan deal from the English club.

The midfielder has been one of the top performers for the Ligue 1 outfit this season and the Frenchman himself admits that he has gained a lot from the loan spell.

Veretout has insisted that he has managed to improve various facets of his game through regular football this term and his Saint-Etienne team-mates have helped him to become a better footballer.

The midfielder told French daily Le Progres: “I came to Saint-Etienne to play and have fun and it’s been a season that has a brought a lot for me.

“We can always do better but overall I think it’s been a good season for me.”

Saint-Etienne have been keen to sign him on a permanent deal from Aston Villa this summer and are expected to open negotiations soon as they look to secure his signature.

He is also attracting interest from another French club in the shape of Nantes.
