Celtic legend Tom Boyd believes it was not at all an easy task for the Hoops to finish their league campaign unbeaten as they also had to participate in European games and cup matches.

Brendan Rodgers’ team beat Hearts 2-0 on Sunday to conclude their Scottish Premiership campaign without a single loss.

Celtic, who won the Scottish Premiership title for the sixth consecutive time, ended the season with a record 34 league wins; the Bhoys’ 106 points and as many goals scored are also records.

The Paradise outfit could in fact finish their domestic campaign undefeated and lift the treble if they manage to beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final at the weekend.

And Boyd thinks Celtic’s participation in the Champions League and domestic cup games made their unbeaten league record a more commendable job as it is not easy by any means to play that many matches.

“We have really achieved to set a standard”, he said on Celtic TV.

“Celtic had to go through other games – we had a European challenge and we started badly against Lincoln Red Imps.

“To be also playing cup games [was a tough ask], hopefully we will win the treble this weekend.

“It takes its toll. But the manager has used his squad ever so well.

“Different players have come in and have enhanced the team and that’s why we ended the league campaign with no defeats.”

Celtic’s European exploits were less noteworthy this season as they were knocked out of the group stage of the Champions League after finishing rock-bottom in Group C.
