Crystal Palace are interested in roping in former Leicester City boss and Premier League winning manager Claudio Ranieri as a replacement for Sam Allardyce, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

Allardyce shocked the football world by tendering his resignation at Palace on Tuesday night, just weeks after saving the Eagles from relegation from the Premier League.

The London club have gone to work immediately in the wake of Allardyce’s resignation and are keen to install the new manger as soon as possible to plan ahead for next season.

And it has been claimed Palace are considering offering the role to Ranieri, who won the Premier League with Leicester last season but was sacked earlier in the campaign as the Foxes dangled just above the relegation zone.

The Italian’s experience of working in the Premier League could work in his favour as Palace are unwilling to bring in someone who is not tuned to the beats of the top tier of English football.

Watford are said to be interested in snapping up Ranieri, but the 65-year-old has made it clear that he hasn’t been contacted by the Hornets owners, the Pozzo family, regarding replacing Walter Mazzarri.

Ranieri is believed to be keen to return to working in the Premier League and it remains to be seen whether he receives any concrete offer from Palace in the coming days.
