Barcelona are interested in signing Ander Herrera in the summer, but Jose Mourinho has demanded Manchester United offer a new contract to the Spain midfielder.

The Catalan giants are set to name Ernesto Valverde as their new coach in the coming days and the former Athletic Bilbao boss has made his demands clear to Barcelona.

According to Sport, Valverde wants to reunite with his former Athletic Bilbao player Herrera at the Nou Camp in the summer and wants Barcelona to try and sign him ahead of next season.

Valverde was not pleased when Athletic Bilbao were forced to sell him in 2014 and is keen to work with the midfielder again at Barcelona next season as part of his plans for the Blaugrana.

Herrera has only one year left on his contract with the Red Devils and Barcelona are prepared to make a play for him in the summer as it could be an economically viable deal.
