Pep Clotet is a contender to take over as head coach at Leeds United, while former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka is also under consideration, it has been claimed.

Leeds are looking for a new head coach after Garry Monk put in his resignation on Thursday morning, which the club accepted.

Monk is tipped to become the new manager at Middlesbrough, who were relegated from the Premier League this season.

Clotet was appointed as Monk's assistant at Elland Road and the Spaniard also worked with the 38-year-old at Swansea City, meaning many are now expecting him to move on with Monk to pastures new.

However, according to Catalan daily Sport, Clotet is under consideration at Elland Road to step up and become the new head coach.

It is not clear whether Clotet would be interested in the position, but Leeds have put him on their list of potential appointments.

Karanka is also under consideration.

The former Real Madrid assistant has received offers from outside England since he was sacked as Middlesbrough manager in March.

But he has turned down the proposals which have come his way as he is keen to remain in English football, something which could boost Leeds' chances of landing him.
