Claudio Ranieri has denied being approached by Leeds United about their vacant managerial job.

The Whites were left reeling earlier this week when head coach Garry Monk knocked back the chance to extend his stay at Elland Road by a further year, opting instead to resign.

Monk is now being strongly linked with Middlesbrough, who were relegated from the Premier League this season.

Leeds are now hunting his replacement and have been claimed to have made a move for Ranieri – the Italian is available after he was sacked by Leicester City earlier this year.

But Ranieri has denied having had any contact with Leeds and told TGG: "I don't know anything about this Leeds story. I haven't spoken to them

"I'm in London to watch the cup final tomorrow.

"I'll be supporting my old team Chelsea of course."

Ranieri was asked whether he would be interested in taking over at Leeds and replied: "I prefer not to speculate."

The Italian led Leicester to the Premier League title last season, before a slump from the Foxes this term cost him his job.

It would be considered a coup if Leeds were able to tempt the former Chelsea, Monaco and Valencia boss to drop down to the Championship to join a team who have not played in the top flight since 2004.

Leeds have also been linked with former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka.
