Antonio Conte has revealed that Arsene Wenger couldn’t make time for him when he was studying the methods of English football.

The 47-year-old visited several clubs and their training grounds during his stint with the Italian national team to learn the methods of English football, in 2015, while he was in charge of the Italy national team.

Mauricio Pochettino found time to entertain Conte at Tottenham’s training facilities and West Ham, and current employers Chelsea, also allowed the Italian to have a peak at their regime.

And Conte admits that he also wanted to visit Arsenal’s training facilities and possibly meet Wenger during that exercise, but he revealed that the Gunners never gave him the green signal.

He did add that he was at the Emirates when Arsenal suffered one of their more demoralising Champions League defeats at the hands of Monaco, but missed the chance to meet Wenger.

Conte said in a press conference: “I tried to contact Arsenal during my experience in England when I visited Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham.

“But in that moment they were very busy and for this reason I didn't have the possibility.

“I saw the game, Arsenal against Monaco, when they lost at home in the Champions League.

“But I didn't have the opportunity to see Wenger and his job.

“I would have liked it, but it wasn't possible.”

Conte will be looking to break Arsenal hearts on Saturday by leading Chelsea to an FA Cup final victory at Wembley.
