Massimo Cellino’s legal and personal advisor has dismissed denials from Genoa president Enrico Preziosi that the former Leeds United chairman could buy the Serie A club.

Andrea Radrizzani completed the purchase of Cellino's remaining 50 per cent shareholding at Leeds earlier this week and the latter is eyeing a return to Italian football as he seeks to make a quick return to football club ownership.

The 60-year-old Italian businessman has been linked with buying a majority stake at Serie B side Brescia over the last month, however he has paused his efforts as he considers his options.

There have been suggestions that Cellino is looking at an opportunity with Genoa and while the club have denied any such speculation, the Italian’s advisor has confirmed his interest.

Bruno Ghirardi, Cellino’s advisor, admits that he expected Genoa to deny the rumours, but insisted that the Italian is considering buying a stake in the Serie A club.

However, he added that that the deal would be much more expensive compared to owning a majority stake at Brescia.

He told Repubblica Genova: “It’s normal that they denied it, it would have been strange otherwise.

“Genoa intrigues him so much and we are thinking seriously.

“But compared to Brescia the commitment from a financial point of view will be higher."

Ghirardi also believes Cellino's decision will eventually come down to a lifestyle choice, as he knows the former Leeds supremo needs to be hands on.

"It will be a lifestyle choice.

"If he goes to Brescia, he can live in Milan with his family.

"If he takes Genoa, it is clear he could not commute – because Cellino is someone who needs to be there, he does not like to delegate", he added.
