AC Milan are becoming increasingly confident about signing Alvaro Morata, despite interest from Manchester United, as the striker prefers a move back to Italy.

The 24-year-old hitman is expected to leave Real Madrid in the summer after struggling to feature enough in Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven as he wants regular football next season.

Jose Mourinho is interested in taking the Spaniard to Manchester United and has personally called his former Real Madrid striker to convince him to move to the north west of England.

AC Milan are also plotting to spend big money for the Spain international in the summer and the Rossoneri are set to receive a big incentive to continue to pursue Morata.

According to Italian broadcaster Sky Italia, Morata prefers a move to Italy despite interest from Manchester United and is expected to consider offers from Serie A clubs.

Ideally the striker would like to return to Juventus, but the Italian champions are unlikely to pursue him again and his apparent preference for Italy is giving AC Milan huge confidence.

The Rossoneri have already reportedly agreed the terms of a contract with the player and the club are keen to finalise the agreement with Morata before approaching Real Madrid.

The Serie A giants are planning to meet the Real Madrid hierarchy after the Champions League final as they look to step up on their efforts to sign Morata in the summer.
