Eddie Gray has indicated that all at Leeds United have to fully back Aitor Karanka or whoever takes charge of the club this summer.

The Whites are currently in search of a new head coach after Garry Monk stepped down from his post earlier in the week.

Former Middlesbrough boss Karanka has been linked with taking charge of Leeds ahead of the next season, with the likes of Claudio Ranieri, Walter Mazzarri and Pep Clotet also claimed to be under consideration for the vacant managerial post at Elland Road.

Karanka helped Boro to gain promotion back to the Premier League at the end of the 2015/16 campaign before being sacked by the Riverside Stadium outfit in March, with the club being in the danger zone; Middlesbrough were relegated to the Championship after finishing the recently concluded season in 19th place.

And Gray, who refused to comment on whether Karanka would be a good fit for Leeds, however, insisted that the new head coach should be backed by everyone at the club.

“He did well at Middlesbrough and I don’t know what happened up there”, the Leeds United legend told the Yorkshire Evening Post, when asked if he felt if Karanka would be good appointment for the Yorkshire giants.

“Obviously communications between him and his board up there broke down for whatever reason so we’ll just have to wait and see.

“But whoever it is, everybody has got to get right behind the new man because that’s the nature of football.

“I wouldn’t throw any name into the hat myself, that’s not my position.

“The club will look at it and they will find who they think is best for the job.”

While Karanka is on Leeds' radar, Monk is the bookmakers' favourite to be the new manager at Middlesbrough.
