Aaron Ramsey says Arsenal's season must be considered a success after they beat Chelsea 2-1 to win the FA Cup at Wembley.

The Gunners started quickly and were first to every ball, eventually getting their reward when Alexis Sanchez struck in just the fourth minute, Chelsea thinking initially the goal would be ruled out for offside, but the referee decided Ramsey was not interfering with play.

Chelsea saw Victor Moses sent off for a second yellow card offence in the 68th minute, leaving the Blues with a mountain to climb, but they soon had hope after Diego Costa levelled in the 76th minute.

But just minutes later it was Arsenal ahead again, with Ramsey scoring to make it 2-1.

There was no way back for Chelsea and Arsenal picked up their 13th FA Cup, a competition record, while Arsene Wenger has won his seventh as a manager.

Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League and so will be playing Europa League football next season – but Ramsey thinks winning the FA Cup means the season must be classed as a success.

He said on the BBC: "It's been an up and down season. We've finished with the FA Cup so it has to be successful.

"I've got the winner again. I love this competition.

"The boys deserve this. I'm happy for the manager. To get another FA Cup – delighted."

Ramsey also offered his backing to Wenger, insisting he wants the Frenchman to carry on at the club and believes he deserves a chance to build on the tactical change he made late in the season.

"Of course I want him to stay at club. He deserves this.

"We changed the formation and had a lot of success.

"Fair play to him, he changed the system. Hopefully, he'll be there next season", Ramsey added.
