Liverpool legend Sami Hyypia has revealed he taught Emre Can how to execute the bicycle kick which earned the Reds a vital win away at Watford this season.

Can's bicycle kick won plaudits from all corners, with the German midfielder connecting with a lofted ball from Lucas Leiva. The Liverpool star's strike was rated as one of the goals of the season and the three points taken from Vicarage Road were key in the Reds finishing in the top four.

Hyypia says that he worked on the bicycle kick with Can, during his time managing the midfielder at Bayer Leverkusen.

The Liverpool legend revealed that Can stayed behind after training to work on his technique.

"Goal of the season, that's easy, it's Emre bicycle kick", Hyypia said on LFC TV.

"I taught him by the way.

"He was my player at Leverkusen.

"We practiced every day after training."

However, Hyypia admits he could not execute the shot himself.

"I think I would have broken my back or something if I'd tried that one.

"But it's great that somebody is creative enough to try something like that."

Can, still just 23 years old, was at Leverkusen from 2013 until 2014, having joined the BayArena outfit from Bayern Munich.

The midfielder is close to entering the final 12 months of his contract at Liverpool, with the club not yet having reached an agreement on an extension with the midfielder.
