Deportivo La Coruna are set to hold talks with Aston Villa over the re-signing of Carles Gil, according to Spanish daily El Ideal Gallego.

The midfielder, who was snapped up by Aston Villa from Valencia in January 2015, spent the 2016/17 campaign on loan at Deportivo.

He made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish outfit, scoring once and providing four assists.

It has been claimed that Deportivo have been impressed with Gil’s performances and want to re-sign him this summer.

On the other hand, the Villains, who does not have Gil in their plans for next season, want to recover the £3m they paid Valencia for the 24-year-old.

It remains to be seen if Deportivo manage to sign Gil permanently, given their economic situation, but the club have also not discarded the possibility of a fresh new loan deal.

The former Spain Under-21 international is expected to press for a move to Deportivo as he has time and again said that he has good feelings for the club.

Gil, who is a product of Valencia’s youth system, is contracted with Aston Villa until 2019.

He has amassed 34 appearances for the English side, scoring three times and setting up as many goals.
