Newcastle United target Pepe Reina is edging closer towards the exit door at Napoli, but both the club and the player will reflect on a decision in the next two weeks.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper has a contract until the end of next season with Napoli but there are suggestions that he could be leaving the club in the summer transfer window.

The goalkeeper’s agent met Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis in recent days to discuss his situation and it has been agreed to take a break to think about what to do next.

Journalist Niccolo Ceccarini revealed on Tutto Mercato Radio that the two parties will reflect on a decision over the next two weeks, but there are suggestions that Reina is edging towards leaving Napoli in the summer.

The veteran goalkeeper has an option to move back to England as his former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez wants to take him to Newcastle United in the upcoming transfer window.

Manchester City are also reportedly eyeing a move for Reina as Pep Guardiola looks to add further reinforcements to his goalkeeping department after signing Ederson from Benfica this week.

The goalkeeper has been keen for Napoli to extend his contract to give him greater certainty, but the club are not minded to do so.

Reina has made 135 appearances for Napoli since joining from Bayern Munich in 2015.
