Schalke star Max Meyer has ruled out a move to Wolfsburg, despite the fact he is pushing to quit the Ruhr giants.

Meyer has been linked with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, with both Premier League clubs sure to be on red alert after the midfielder rejected a contract extension at Schalke.

According to German news agency DPA, Meyer is pushing for an exit from Schalke in the summer transfer window.

It had been suggested he could stay in the Bundesliga by signing for Wolfsburg, but Meyer has ruled the Volkswagen Arena out as an option.

"This is not an option for me", Meyer said when asked about Wolfsburg.

Schalke though have not yet given up hope that Meyer may have a change of heart and decide to pen a new deal to stay at the club; the 21-year-old's current contract with Schalke has just a year to run.

The club's sporting director Christian Heidel told Sky Deutschland that the proposal was a "very, very good offer" and added "discussions at a later date are possible."

Nevertheless, Meyer rejecting Schalke's proposal has left the Bundesliga side in a vulnerable position heading into the summer transfer window.
