Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has revealed that he knows everything about Dalcio Gomes, having followed him Portugal and also being friends with the new signing’s former coach.

The winger joined Rangers from Benfica B on a one-year loan deal on Tuesday, thereby linking up with his compatriot Caixinha at Ibrox.

Dalcio managed 33 second division league appearances for Benfica B during the 2016/17 campaign, netting once and setting up three goals.

The 21-year-old has also played for Belenenses in Portugal, with Caixinha insisting that he extensively followed the youngster in his homeland.

Caixinha, who also said that he is very close friends with Dalcio’s coach at Benfica B, Helder Cristovao, explained that Rangers are counting on the starlet to deliver for the Scottish giants.

“I have followed him in Portugal, I am very close friends with his previous coach at Benfica B, Helder Cristovao who was a fantastic centre-half for Portugal and Benfica – so I know everything about the player”, Caixinha said on Rangers TV.

We are counting on him, of course he needs all the support especially in these early moments because everything is new for him but he is highly motivated to deliver, drive and cope with this massive club.”

Dalcio is yet to make his senior debut for Benfica, with whom his present contract runs until 2020.

He has represented Portugal up to Under-20 level.
