Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez is tempted at the opportunity to join Manchester City, but Arsene Wenger is trying to prevent strengthening domestic rivals.

Sanchez has a year left on his contract with Arsenal and has shown little inclination towards signing a new deal with a transfer believed to be on the cards this summer.

Pep Guardiola wants to take the Chilean to the Etihad in the upcoming transfer window and Manchester City are aware that the negotiations over a deal with Arsenal are not going to be easy.

But Manchester City have a slight edge over other suitors as according to Catalan daily Sport, Sanchez is tempted at the idea of working with Guardiola and would prefer a move to the Etihad.

The Citizens are expected to face stiff competition from Bayern Munich and the club have a good relationship with his agent, who manages both Sanchez and midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Bavarians have made first contact with the player over a summer switch, but Manchester City remain confident that they will be able to get a deal over the line.

Manchester City are also aware that any deal to sign Sanchez from Arsenal will breach the €50m mark but the club are ready to bankroll an agreement to get the Chilean.

Wenger is not in favour of selling Sanchez even though he is running down his contract and he is especially not in a mood to strengthen domestic rivals such as Manchester City.
