Liverpool target Marco Asensio has stressed his desire to stay put and fight for more playing minutes at Real Madrid, despite speculation of a bid being made by the Reds.

The 21-year-old, who joined Real Madrid in 2014, has struggled for playing minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu and has been linked with a move to Anfield in the summer.

The Reds, it was claimed earlier this year, indicted that they were willing to pay €50m to sign the attacking midfielder, with Los Blancos rebuffing the interest.

The player himself has also time and again stressed his keenness to stay and fight for his place, in spite of the increasing competition at the club.

While speaking at an international press conference on the issue of whether he had any intention of leaving Real Madrid, the youngster said: "No, my intention is to stay at Real Madrid and to earn a lot of minutes.

"My goal is to be a starter at Real Madrid."

Prior to arriving at Real Madrid, Asensio was with Mallorca where he was a regular starter and the attacking midfielder insists that he has to make sure that he proves himself to coach Zinedine Zidane and goes on to become a regular starter yet again at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"There were moments when I didn't play, but I wanted to make the most of any chances the coach afforded me and I finished up in good form.

"I wasn't used to not playing.

"Yet I worked hard to make the most of the opportunities I got and I was able to finish the season well."
