Liam Kelly feels that learning to win and becoming mentally strong during his loan spells helped him to earn a new contract with Rangers.

The 21-year-old, who is a product of Rangers’ youth system, signed a new two-year deal with the Gers on Wednesday.

He spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Livingston and helped the Lions to earn promotion to the Scottish Championship by winning the Scottish League One title.

Kelly, who made 14 appearances in all competitions for Livingston, keeping a clean sheet, enjoyed another successful loan spell at East Fife in the second half of the 2015/16 campaign.

The youngster kept seven clean sheets in 16 league appearances for East Fife as they won the Scottish League Two title.

And Kelly thinks he managed to earn a new contract at Rangers owing to him developing a strong and winning mentality from his loan spells away from Ibrox.

“First and foremost, I think I learned how to win which I think is the key part of being at Rangers”, he told Rangers TV, when asked what he learnt from his loan stints.

“It was a great two seasons winning League Two and then League One which I was delighted with and I think it improved me massively as a goalkeeper.

“Mentally too I think it improved me, and I think that’s played a part in getting me a new contract.”

Kelly, who is yet to make his first team debut for Rangers, has represented Scotland up to Under-21 level.
