Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson has warned Manchester United bound Victor Lindelof that the Premier League can be an unforgiving place for a young defender.

Manchester United have agreed a €35m fee with Benfica for the signature of the 22-year-old defender and the Swede is expected to travel to England this week to undergo a medical with the Premier League giants before completing the switch.

Lindelof is set to become Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer and is expected to partner Eric Bailly at the heart of Manchester United’s defence next season.

However, Larsson, who himself moved to England at a young age, warned his younger compatriot that the Premier League is a testing environment for any young defender.

And with Manchester United involved, Lindelof will feel the eyes of the world on him when he takes the pitch next season, Larsson says.

But the Larsson did add that Lindelof’s move to Manchester United is great news for Swedish football as a young Swedish defender is getting an opportunity to play for one of the biggest names in European football.

The Sunderland midfielder told Expressen: “It can be an unforgiving environment for a young defender.

“Everyone’s eyes are on you. The interest around the Premier League and being at the world’s biggest club, it is clear he will be in focus.

“But I want to congratulate Victor.

"It’s a great event for him and Swedish football that such a young and talented player is going to one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

Lindelof has 12 international caps to his name for Sweden.
