Chelsea and Manchester United are in the mix for the signature of Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The 29-year-old defender had a terrific last season at Dortmund and emerged as a leader of their defence following the departure of Mats Hummels to Bayern Munich.

His performances have invariably led to speculation over his future at the club and the Greek defender has been linked with a move to England, with Arsenal believed to be interested.

However, the Gunners are set to face stiff competition for his signature if they make a move for him as their Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United are also on his trail.

According to German daily Bild, scouts from both clubs watched the defender in action in the German Cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt and were impressed with his performance.
